For science on the 23rd of october we did liquid separation. We learnt about mixtures and solutions.
We had three mixtures/solutions to try separate. In the first one we had a mixture of blue food coloured water, oil, condensed milk, honey, glucose syrup, vegetable oil and vinegar. We tried to find ways of separating the liquids and the best was was to EXTRACT the liquids with a syringe.
The next mixture/solution was cordial and oil. We tried to separate them by decanting but we still got to much cordial in the oil. Next we extracted the oil by using the syringe and it worked.
The last mixture/solution was dirt and water, mr.Cronin told us how to do this one. First we had to get a stocking foot and drained the water from the dirt, then we had to use a paper filter to drain the rest. even though it didn’t drain completely it made a big improvement.
During this lesson I learnt that if you want to EXTRACT the best method is to use a syringe.
What would you say is the best method to use for FILTERING mixtures.
